Phoebe Chicks

Was finally able to get a couple of shots of our Phoebe chicks today. Only stayed for about half a minute because both parents, being incredibly attentive, were getting nervous with me around.

Foodspotting Surge

Finally finished adding all the meal photos from my recent trip to Arizona, New Mexico and Texas as well as other dinners of late to my Foodspotting website and I surged up to 88 spottings. I will probably die with food in my mouth.

Memorial Day Walk With The Tapias

After dinner and games, we drove to Rice Canyon in east Chula Vista to go on a three+ mile walk through the canyon and some neighborhoods. Perfect outdoor walking day. Great way to burn off some of those calories we put on from lunch. (There are photos to prove we did this.)

Memorial Day Barbecue And Games

Had a great barbecue lunch with the Tapias for Memorial Day (steaks (which even Lilo and Stitch got to try for the very first time), corn on the cob, baked beans, roasted zucchini and garlic bread) which we then followed by playing Mastermind, Boggle and the card game Kings in the Corner. We also had …

Ron’s Final Visit In May

My high school buddy Ron flew into town this afternoon. Picked him up from his hotel and took him to Coronado for dinner at Miguel’s Cocina. Then we toured the Hotel Del Coronado (his first time there) including the lower level shops and walked the sidewalk along the beach (watching two F-18s come in for landings), went …

To The Dogs

Had fun watching Lilo and Stitch for a few hours today while Sylvia and Rodrigo were visiting relatives in the O.C.

Martin Luther King Via The Embarcadero

Had a really nice evening walk with all four Tapias north from Joe’s Crab Shack by the Convention Center, through Seaport Village along the Embarcadero, up passed the USS Midway Museum to Broadway, towards downtown to the start of the Martin Luther King Promenade walking trail, passed Kansas City BBQ where a scene from “Top Gun” …

Phoebe Nest

Discovered yet another bird’s nest outside our house. This time it’s a Phoebe nest under the roof eave on the exact opposite side of where our Mourning Doves are nesting. Can’t see inside but I can hear at least two chicks chirping away whenever mom comes near.

Post-Trip Trauma

The worst part of any trip is the financial reconciling that follows. Good thing I’m anal. About keeping things, that is.

Already Walking

After driving for about nine hours and almost 700 miles, I decided to meet Sylvia, Rodrigo and the doggies for a greatly refreshing 3-mile walk at Mission Bay, just east of SeaWorld. Yeah, it’s good to be back.

Home Again

Finally ended my two and a half week, 3,253 mile excursion across four states, coming and going, with an evening arrival back home in a cooler-than-Texas-New Mexico-or-Arizona San Diego. A little strange to be back. How do I do everyday stuff again?

Breakfast with Hotshots

Was having a really good French Toast breakfast at the Lazy Lizard Lounge restaurant at the hotel when 20 worn and dirty Carson National Forest “Hotshot” firefighters came in from an overnight battle with a wildfire outside Silver City. They were enjoying a well-deserved and government-paid buffet before heading back to their home station in Taos, …

Last But Not Least

For the final leg of my two+ week adventure in New Mexico and Texas I will be leaving Deming, NM after breakfast and should arrive in San Diego sometime in the late afternoon/early evening. Google Maps says 630 miles and 10 hours.

The Second Spike

After arriving at my hotel in Deming, I ventured out to discover something about this small town that might be worth writing home about. Turns out that in 1881 Deming was the location for laying of the Silver Spike connecting the country’s second transcontinental railroad. Too bad that the woman at the visitor’s center was …

First Half Of My Drive Home
