Another Monarch Emergeth

Sat and waited for a Monarch Butterfly to emerge from its chrysalis this afternoon. Didn’t have to wait too long and it paid off with a lot of macro shots. Also took shots of four other Monarchs nearby which were in various stages of their own pupation. This one came out healthy and perfect. No …

Animal Ambassadors at the Zoo

Attended another tweet-up at the San Diego Zoo for a presentation by Zoo Ambassador Rick Schwartz of three of the zoo’s animal ambassadors. First up was Isa the fossa, followed by Phu (pronounced foo) Ket the binturong and finishing up with Rio the Amazon parrot. These tweet-ups are always very enjoyable and informative.

Visit From A Pacific Treefrog

Found a Pacific Treefrog on the rim of one of our flowerpots this evening. He was kind enough to let me get within a couple of inches of him so I could get a few macro shots.  Went back a few minutes later and he was gone. I think he may have been looking for …

Slammed At Denny’s

Had me a great French Toast Slam for breakfast this morning with my mom. Our waitress, Steph, had a great attitude and was always on top of things. What made the whole meal even better was that they had decorated the restaurant for Halloween. Pretty good way to start my day.

Stephen Fry Channeling John Cleese

Splendid albeit abbreviated lesson on language tolerance by the brilliant Stephen Fry.

Better Moon

Got up much earlier than yesterday for an attempt to capture a richer image of an almost full Moon. Still not as sharp as I like but much better than yesterday’s image. Time to move on.

Full Moon Morning

A bit late in the morning for a clean shot, but I got this just before the Moon disappeared behind Mt. Soledad. I could feel the pull against my own howling tides.

GeekBeat Meetup With Cali Lewis

Finally got to meet Cali Lewis (Luria Petrucci) in person at a GeekBeat organized meetup at T.G.I. Friday’s in downtown San Diego. I got there an hour early and boy was I the first one there for a long time.  First thing I did when she walked up was get my picture with her.  Didn’t …

Guided Tour In Balboa Park

Went for an hour-long free guided walking tour in Balboa Park this morning with my mom. Ranger Ryan took us to a few spots and talked to us about the architectural and floral history dating back to the very early days of what was first called City Park before the 1915 Panama-California Exposition.

Web deW

It was really foggy this morning and once the sun started coming out it left everything damp and moist including a couple of magnificently large orb-weaving spider webs. What was completely unexpected to me was the refracted purple and green colors inside some of the drops. There are no spiders in these shots.

Pleasing The Larvae

Since all of our milkweed plants had been completely gleaned of juicy, milk-filled leaves by the few remaining Monarch larvae we have, we bought a few more plants to get them bulked up enough for their upcoming pupation phase. They appeared very grateful.

Fall Decorating At The Tapias

Went along with Sylvia for her fall decor shopping at Michael’s (where the line was way too long to wait in) and Target where she picked up a really cool giant plastic pre-carved jack-o-lantern which was placed on top of their front lamppost. We spent the afternoon decorating their front entryway before stopping to relax …

Party For José

Went to a family party at José’s house to celebrate his quick recovery after brain surgery. Even family from out of town showed up for this one. We had fantastic chili, corn bread and dump cake, all home-made by the Tapias. ( p a r t y   p i c s )

Walk And Dinner On Coronado

Went for an evening walk with the Tapias from Coronado’s Tidelands Park up to the Old Ferry Landing where we had dinner at Lil’ Piggy’s Bar-B-Q and then walked back to Tidelands Park. I had an incredible Texas Potato with pulled pork and other fixings for my dinner.
