Kitty Care

First of six days/five nights of cat-sitting for the neighbors. Some day I hope to be able to tell them apart. The cats, not the neighbors.

Walkies With Rodrigo

Went on an evening walk along Mission Bay starting from Rose Marie Starns South Shores Park with Rodrigo and the doggies while Sylvia was out of town. Followed that up with a long-overdue visit to a nearby Starbucks. Why do none of the barristas at any Starbucks I go to know about the iPhone apps picks …

Scales On The Screen

Found a baby lizard on the outside of our kitchen window screen. First reaction is to always get the camera and invade its privacy. It didn’t seem to mind, though. Matter of fact, I think it enjoyed the notion of it ending up on the Internet to be gawked at by hordes of at least …

Milkweed Seed Harvest

Gathered a bunch of Milkweed seeds so we can grow our own plants to attract Monarch butterflies instead of buying any new ones. Excellent harvest this year. Should make a fine and robust vintage.

Another New Pet

Was lucky enough to capture a very healthy Monarch Butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Forgive the poor cell phone video quality.

Varmint Distress

While spending the night in the Tapias’ backyard studio, I was shocked awake by what turned out to be two very unhappy raccoons fighting next to and in the Tapias’ pool. There was so much vicious screeching and splashing that when I first awoke I had no idea what was going on. It didn’t last …

Menagerie Watch: Day Two

Second day of watching the neighbors’ cats and dogs. (Other than working on Oxnard photos and watching podcasts, I didn’t do much else today. Sad? Maybe. Pathetic? Youbetcha.)

Back On The Farm

Starting another animal-sitting stint for the neighbors. This one’s for three days, two nights and still with two dogs that need meds and eight cats that sleep a lot.

The Beauty Of The Brown Widow

Macro shot of the Brown Widow spider’s undercarriage. More beautifully colored than its more infamous cousin. Found this one nested on a plant in our backyard.

Vote For Stitch!

My friends Sylvia and Rodrigo have entered their doggie, Stitch, in a local “Dog Days of Summer” photo contest. I ask anyone reading this to go and place their vote for Stitch. It is a perfect picture.

New Neighbor Welcoming Party

Went with my mom to a neighbor friend’s house for a party welcoming some new neighbors to the other end of our street. Interesting mix of young kids, adults, me and then a bunch of older folks. Topics of conversation were all over the place. Got to finally meet Jane’s new poodle Isabella.

Nighttime Zoo

Had a really enjoyable time at the San Diego Zoo’s Nighttime Zoo. Didn’t see many animals because I was with two other families with kids, including two babies, but still had a very relaxed time. Got some really good shots of two sleeping polar bears. We stayed until they closed and were able to take …

New Home For Scaley

Transfered our pet rattlesnake into a smaller, easier to carry container and then drove him (fastest he has ever gone at twenty miles an hour) down to the other end of the street, walked about a third of the way down the canyon and released him back into the wild. If he’d have had hands …

Tattling On The Rattling

Well we found yet another rattlesnake, our fourth so far, in our backyard. This one slithered into an area than made me a bit uncomfortable to try and coax it out. My mom got a neighbor to help and we were able to get it into an empty trash can where it is spending the …

Heather and Crikey, Singing In A Tree…

Finally posted my video of Heather getting Crikey, a male Kookaburra at the San Diego Zoo, to sing so loud and long that a mildly irritated zoo keeper came over and asked us to stop. Thanks for getting us into trouble, Heather.
