Mouse House

Came home from lunch and had this little guy waiting for me by the front door. I think he was waiting for some lunch leftovers. Bummer for him that I didn’t have any. He hopped away. The end.

Another, Less Welcome, Native Visitor

Came across this juvenile Western Rattlesnake on our driveway while I was taking out the trash. Beautiful animals, but it does worry me a bit to wonder where the rest of the members of the nest are.

2/3 Of Mammal Sitting Day Three

My half day of animal sitting turned into two thirds. Cats are getting much more comfortable with me. (more boring pics to come)

Day Two Of Mammal-Sitting

Final full day of going back and forth all day from the neighbor’s house to take care of their cats and dogs while their out of town. (pics to come)

Baby Squirrels Own Our Backyard

Watched four baby squirrels, two adults and one teenager running rampant around our backyard, eating birdseed and weeds in the grass. What I suppose must have been the mother sat on the fence for a while watching it all.

First Night Back With Neighbor Mammals

Began another round of house/dog/cat sitting for the neighbors while they are out of town for Easter weekend. My duty will end Sunday afternoon.

Back To The Butterflies

Spent a few hours at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park with the Holden family. Went to walk around in general, but to see the Butterfly Jungle exhibit in particular. Bought me a bright yellow SpongeBob t-shirt first. Butterflies loved it. (pics to come)

Tina And Jewel

Tina and Jewel, two Asian elephants that were rescued in Texas and temporarily brought to the San Diego Zoo, have since moved up the road to the L.A. Zoo. Here’s a really cute video of them playing in a waterfall at their new home.

Beautiful Hooded Oriole

While shooting photos of a family of seven squirrels in the backyard today, this amazingly colorful bird landed on one of our plumeria plants. After searching online to try and identify it, I finally found a site that helped me identify it as a male Hooded Oriole.

Family And Friend Day At The Zoo

Spent a few hours at the San Diego Zoo with my brother Tommy, my nephew Alex, Sylvia with Deaglan and Mary with Diana.

Dinner And An Enzo

Had dinner with most of the family, including the newest member, Enzo, a Maltese/Pekinese mix puppy that belongs to my nephew, Stephen.

Alligator Closeup

Did some gardening in the backyard this afternoon to get my fingers dirty, and this guy moseyed on by to say hello.

Helping With Giraffe’s Notoriety

The San Diego Zoo tweeted about my baby giraffe photo on Flickr. (Isn’t she #adorable?! RT @PeterCsanadi: 18-hour old giraffe calf at the San Diego Zoo. http://flic.kr/p/9sTjFG)

More Baby Giraffe Shots

Spent some time this morning back at the San Diego Zoo, mainly to take more pictures of the baby giraffe that was born two days ago. They know now that it’s a girl. She stands 6’1″ and weighs 172 lbs.

My Second In A Row One-Day Old Giraffe Sighting

Just like last year, I got to see a not-quite one-day old giraffe calf at the San Diego Zoo. Missed both births by less than a day. Still feel pretty lucky, though.
