Had a quick lunch with my mom at Waldo’s Chili Dogs in Clairemont Town Square. After all these years she has finally grown to love hot dogs. They’re quick, delicious and cheap. My hound of choice for today was a Pastrami Dog. Very tasty.

Here’s Waldo
Ran a buttload of errands with my mom which included a lunch stop at Waldo’s Chili Dogs at Clairemont Square. I’d eaten there once before and I knew how much my mom likes hot dogs. We both ordered the Avocado Bacon Hot Dog and they were really good. We split a bag of Fritos and …

Hangin’ With The Tapias
Had a much-needed afternoon of distractions with the four Tapias in Chula Vista. It began with a great lunch from Los Panchos followed by a Starbucks run for my usual tall, decaf, Caramel Macchiato with extra caramel. We stopped to briefly harass the Vander Schuurs before taking a leisurely drive along by the South Bay …

Thanksgiving 2012
Had our annual most-of-the-family Thanksgiving get together at our house. This time the food was generously provided by my older brother and his family members, instead of my mom having to make most of the dishes, and it was a lunch instead of a dinner. It was all really good. Next year, for the benefit …

A Tapia Kind Of Day
After my morning RV adventure in Poway, I drove down to Chula Vista to spend some quality time with Rodrigo, Sylvia, Stitch and Lilo. Our hanging out involved a Starbucks run to try their annual holiday-time drinks, enjoying some fantastic stew that Sylvia crock-potted for lunch, a shopping trip to Sam’s Club, and ordering amazing …

Jeff’s Secret Mission
Picked up my ol’ Disney pal, Jeff, who was in town visiting from Austin on business, from a discreet location to begin our evening of reminiscing, eating, drinking and merriment. We began in La Jolla and ended up in Old Town where we had a wonderful Mexican dinner and talked about how good life is. …

Breakfast With Harriet
Met my long-time friend and one-time client, Harriet, for breakfast at the Encinitas Cafe in, of all places, Encinitas. She had chosen the restaurant because it had been a few years since she’d been there and she remembered it fondly. I liked the history behind the place. From their website: “The Encinitas Cafe has been …

Familiar Dinner
Had a chunk of the family over for dinner tonight, including my older brother, his daughter and my sister. My mom made delicious Hungarian gulyás (goulash) but with rice added for some extra thickness. First time I’ve had it this way but I liked it. Another first: my sister brought over three tiny watermelon looking …

VS House-Sitting: Day Two
Started my second away-from-home day with getting some shots of both Gordon and Theo before they disappeared into the Chula Vista wilderness, a.k.a. the neighbors’ yards. Ended my day by partaking of some fantastic trifle that Heather had made for me to enjoy. I shared it with the Tapias when I visited with them. And …

Surprise Guests During Lunch At The Village Grill
After finishing going through “The Horse” exhibit at the Natural History Museum my mom and I decided to walk across the way to sit and have a nice al fresco sandwich lunch at The Village Grill. I had tried their tuna melt before and liked it quite a bit. Unfortunately they didn’t have it any …

Back Home And Cheap Food
Took Lilo and Stitch to pick up their parents, Rodrigo and Sylvia, after a late night arrival at the airport to officially end their first-ever trip to Hawaii. The dogs were so good and patient as we sat in the cell phone lot waiting for the “we’re out on the curb waiting to be picked …

Post-Zoo Lunch At Phil’s
After a fun morning spent at the San Diego Zoo with Heather and Lauren, our empty stomachs demanded that we head over to Phil’s BBQ for lunch. I had the amazingly good and filling Broham (pulled pork) Sandwich. Something about the food and ambiance at Phil’s that makes me feel comfortable. After finishing our extra-saucy …

Tapia House-Sitting: Day Two
My day started off with a breakfast of champions: a bowl of Cocoa Puffs Brownie Crunch, Cap’n Crunch’s Peanut Butter Crunch and Honey Nut Cheerios, all mixed together in a Kellogg’s cereal bowl. Watching the dogs was more enjoyable today since I stayed here all day. They did come out with me a few times, …

Masticating With Two Women
Met with my long-time friends, Sylvia and Lannie, at Rubio’s in Southbay for an early lunch. Wanted to try something new again so I had the Grilled Chile-Lime Wild Salmon Taco Plate with beans and rice. It tasted great but I think there were too many different bits and textures in the tacos that fought …

Memorial Barbecue
Drove down to Sylvia and Rodrigo’s house for a Memorial Day barbecue in their backyard. Sylvia’s parents also came by for the meet and greet and eat. Rodrigo was, of course, in charge of the actual barbecuing while Sylvia took care of the sautéed onions and mushrooms along with the other condiments. The hamburgers turned …
