Ambulating Along Shelter Island

Went for a morning walk with the Tapias along Shelter Island in hopes of seeing a gray whale that was spotted in the harbor yesterday. No luck with the whale-spotting but we did find the Girl in the Red Shoes. And it was a very enjoyable walk to areas we’d never been before. ( p …

Old Town, Part Deux

Spent a second day walking around Old Town in San Diego, taking pictures and meeting friends for lunch. This time it was with Lisa and her family at La Piñata, advertised as the oldest restaurant in Old Town. ( p i c s )

Aqui Es Texcoco Means What Exactly?

Had a very unusual-tasting dinner of lamb at Aqui es Texcoco with the Tapias. EVERYTHING on the menu (except one quail dish and a quesadilla) had lamb. It didn’t taste bad, but it was very different. We almost didn’t stay when we found out it was just lamb but the waiter brought us two complimentary …

Old Town And Young Friends

Had a really nice time walking around taking pictures in Old Town today. Then my day got even better after meeting up for lunch with Heather and her daughter plus Lannie with her son at Café Coyote. After lunch I went over to see the McCoy House Museum for the first time. Talked for about …

Heather and Crikey, Singing In A Tree…

Finally posted my video of Heather getting Crikey, a male Kookaburra at the San Diego Zoo, to sing so loud and long that a mildly irritated zoo keeper came over and asked us to stop. Thanks for getting us into trouble, Heather.

BBQ At Tapias With Zumayas

Had a great time hanging out and eating barbecue at the Tapias with the Zumayas who came down for a surprise visit. Finally got to see little Ben, the newest Zumaya, in person.

Walking Embarcadero With Fireworks

After enjoying a really good Papa John’s pizza I had a great night walk with the Tapias along Seaport Village ending with watching some fantastic, close-up fireworks from the San Diego Symphony’s Summer Pops at the Embarcadero Marina Park North next to the Convention Center (home to Comic Con in two weeks).

Sucker Punched Again

While having a really good Papa John’s pizza, I watched Sucker Punch with Sylvia and Rodrigo, my second time, their first. I don’t think I’ve ever liked such a dark, depressing movie as much as this one. Still find the imagery and cinematography to be absolutely stunning.

Today’s Friends

Today I am honoring those friends with whom I had some sort of communication with on this day, be it over the phone, through text message, on Facebook, Twitter message, chat or email. They are presented in no particular order other than alphabetical and clock-wise from the top.

Visiting Clawed, Feathered And Hairy Cousins And Relatives

Had a really good photo day at the San Diego Zoo with Mary and Diana. Got some fantastically lucky shots of Funani the Hippo and her recently born son Adhama. Also had the best meal ever at the Zoo at Albert’s Restaurant, contrasting with the worst the last time I visited. Ran into an old …

Celebrating America With Foreigners

After a terrific earlier than expected breakfast, I started helping the Tapias finish getting ready for a 1:00 4th of July pool party with some friends’ families visiting from Ireland and New Jersey. About thirty people were there and the party didn’t stop until well after a 9pm fireworks show. We got pretty tired from …

Wedded And Recepted

Went to a wedding and reception this evening at the Marina Village Conference Center across from SeaWorld for a couple I had never met before. Luckily I went with two friends and knew the bride’s two sisters. Also knew a few of the other people. The food was fairly decent and there was an open …

New Mexico Fire Forces My Brother To Evacuate

The quickly growing Las Conchas Fire that ignited this afternoon southwest of Los Alamos has burned into the city causing my brother and his family along with many of his friends to evacuate and seek shelter outside of Santa Fe for the night. I was giving him regular updates from Twitter and elsewhere online. It’s …

My Day With Lilo And Stitch

Dog-sat Lilo and Stitch today while their parents were visiting family in Orange County. Easy gig. Those dogs are the best. Gave me a chance to finally watch “How To Train Your Dragon” which I absolutely loved. Also gave me the opportunity to pick a ton of cherry tomatoes to bring home and to document …

Fun With Science

Had a great time playing with science experiments with Rodrigo at the Ruben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park. We also watched the IMAX movie “Hubble” which was stunning, if a little hard to watch at times because of craning our necks to see everything in their domed theater. ( p i c s )
