An Apple Fanboy On Steve Jobs Day

Today was officially “Steve Jobs Day” as decreed by our re-governor, Jerry Brown. I went to an Apple Store in Chula Vista with my tech friend, Rodrigo to play with as many Apple products as possible to honor Mr. Jobs. They had a bunch of post-it note tributes to him on the front entry windows. …

Better Moon

Got up much earlier than yesterday for an attempt to capture a richer image of an almost full Moon. Still not as sharp as I like but much better than yesterday’s image. Time to move on.

Full Moon Morning

A bit late in the morning for a clean shot, but I got this just before the Moon disappeared behind Mt. Soledad. I could feel the pull against my own howling tides.

Fall Decorating At The Tapias

Went along with Sylvia for her fall decor shopping at Michael’s (where the line was way too long to wait in) and Target where she picked up a really cool giant plastic pre-carved jack-o-lantern which was placed on top of their front lamppost. We spent the afternoon decorating their front entryway before stopping to relax …

At Heather’s Day Seven: Numbers

Today I tasked myself with taking macro shots of everyday items around the house or garage that showed numbers. I was amazed at how many examples I found. There were even things that were similar enough to each other that I felt I could ignore.

At Heather’s Day Six: Textures

Today’s self-appointed assignment was to capture textures, inside and out, natural and man-made, all macro. I’ve already forgotten what a couple of them were of.

Bulk Shopping With Sylvia

Went to Costco with Sylvia and enjoyed me some garlic and artichoke as well as avocado and something else flavored hummus on pita chips, a California sushi roll with imitation crab and some Hormel Old Smokehouse thick sliced bacon. Oh, and they already had Christmas decorations for sale.

iPhone 4S Announcement

Followed along with this morning’s iPhone press announcement out of Cupertino by reading the live blogs from engadget, this is my next and gdgt (who all own the copyrights to the attached photos) as well as watching TWIT‘s live commentary coverage. Most of the interior upgrades to the iPhone were spot on with the rumors and they …

At Heather’s Day Two: Shapes

My second full day at Heather’s house. Today my focus was on capturing interesting geometric shapes from both inside and out, natural and man-made.

You Know You’re Not In Nebraska When…

I went to pick up a gallon of milk from Albertson’s in Chula Vista for my weeklong stay at Heather’s and had trouble finding parking because they had cordoned off the main center parking aisle to set up tents and a dancing area for these Hispanic youths dressed in authentic Mexican folk dance costumes. It …

President Obama’s Motorcade

President Obama flew into Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego today for a short trip over to La Jolla for a $5,000 a person ($10,000 for a photo op) fund raiser. His motorcade drove west on Hwy 52 then south on I-5. The highway patrol actually stopped traffic on both freeways to allow his motorcade …

Facebook F8 Conference

Watched the live streaming of Facebook’s F8 conference with Mark Zuckerberg giving his usual keynote address. While most people are for a while going to be angry and have a terrible time with the new layout and additions they will be rolling out, especially Timeline, I think this is an incredible leap forward for Facebook …

Dewy Web

This morning was particularly moist outside once most of the thick fog we had overnight burned off. Went out and took a bunch of pictures of an orb-weaving spider’s giant web that was dotted with hundreds of tiny water droplets. The spider who spun the impressive web was nowhere to be seen. ( w e …

Screech, Crash And Roll

Someone was having a bad day. While harvesting some milkweed seeds in our backyard I heard some screeching tires coming from the I-5 in the canyon below. Didn’t think anything of it at first since I’d heard it before. But this one lasted a bit longer and then I heard some muffled crunching. Ran over …

9/11 Tribute

Posted a personal memorial tribute on Facebook for the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Reliving the whole event, even ten years later and from three thousand miles away, still brings out my unforgiving rage and makes my palms sweat.
