Festival Of Flight Tweet-up

Even though it rained a bit, I had a great time at today’s San Diego Zoo tweet-up during their Festival of Flight celebration. We got to feed loud and finicky Flamingoes and were presented with a Speckled Owl (which we got to pet) and a very blue Macaw (which we were not allowed to get very close to). Got a chance to spend some time with the Zoo’s social media person, Matt, to talk to him about the Zoo’s tumblr page, as well as talked to Rick, the Zoo’s Animal Ambassador, about some of the other animals there at the Zoo.

For Fans Of Eleven

Captured this moment on my computer today. More than likely I won’t be around to see this the next time it happens.

I Just Can’t Stop – Now With Audio

Signed up for an Audioboo account which basically is like twitter for audio. I’m excited about this because it’s different, a lot more personal than written words and could be a lot of fun. I can record and send short audio messages, post them on other social media sites, embed them on my too many blogs (including my mom talking about her recipes for the recipe blog) and follow other Audiobooers such as Stephen Fry and Cayenne Chris Conroy with his Teknikal Diffikulties podcast. All for free. Gotta love the Internet.

Festival Of Flight

Took my mom to the San Diego Zoo this morning on the first day of it’s now annual Festival of Flight days. This year, along with the usual bird displays and presentations, the Zoo incorporated the military’s version of flight into it’s displays, including the Centennial of Naval Aviation and volunteers from the USS Midway.

Somebody Please Stop Me

Created yet another blog, this time through tumblr, to showcase only my favorite wildlife photos. This will act as a one-stop viewing site for those photos without any distracting text (other than descriptive captions) or links.

(Beata, there will eventually be some spider photos added.)

Pei Wei Lunch With Lannie

Had a really nice Chinese lunch with Lannie at Pei Wei in Mission Valley. Wanted to try something new so I ordered the Caramel Chicken, which had a little bite to it but was really flavorful and I would order it again. Lannie and I ended up sitting and catching up for almost two hours, talking about life, family and friends.

Funani And Adhama Have Been Chosen

One of my personal favorite photos from the San Diego Zoo was chosen to be added to a photo website in England called SLR-Lens which has a blogpost showing what they consider to be the best wildlife photos of 2011. My photo is of Funani, a female River Hippo, next to her recently born son, Adhama, both of whom are staring directly at me. Very nice honor to have.

Dinner Mexicano Style

After walking around and taking some night shots in Old Town, I had a fantastic Mexican dinner in with my friend, Barbara, and her friend, Kim. We ate at Casa de Reyes in the Fiesta de Reyes area. I ordered the shredded beef taco and pork tamale combo plate and it was excellent. Food and decor-wise it may just be my favorite restaurant in Old Town.

Saw The Whole Zoo

Spent the entire day at the San Diego Zoo with my high school friend, Barbara. It was empty enough where we actually walked a good 90% of the park and saw almost all the animals. Two new exhibited animals I saw were a Maned Wolf and a Leopard. Half the guests there were from Green Bay after the Packers were in town for a win against our Chargers yesterday.

Most Of The Family Dinner

Had most of the family over for dinner tonight. Of the locals, only my older brother couldn’t make it. The túrós csusza that my mom made and the palacsinta (crepes) that my sister made tasted great as always.

Hot Chocolate With Cars Two

Tried my second new drink in a row from a Starbucks, that was already surrounded by Christmas decorations to buy, in a Vons grocery store. I ordered a Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate. Took it back to the Tapias to finally watch Cars 2, which I absolutely loved. Amazing movie. Not as much heart as the first, but stunning cityscapes and fun story with great characters. The hot chocolate was very good as well.

Insidious BBQ

Picked up some great barbecue from Phi’s BBQ with the Tapias and had dinner in Chula Vista, followed by a late night viewing of the scary movie Insidious. The food was awesome as usual. The movie was mostly good scary entertainment. First 2/3 of the movie was fairly good and unnerving, but it went downhill a bit until the ending twist.

San Diego Salute

Captured the San Diego Salute flying formation team as they flew their Beechcraft T-34s over our house this afternoon. They were doing their annual Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial ceremony fly-over.

There were seven total but one peeled off moments before this shot.
