Dinner And A Show

Had some great Chinese food (Orange Chicken and Coconut Shrimp) from China One in Chula Vista while watching Red, a movie I had been wanting to see for a long time. I hate to admit that I really enjoyed a movie where many people were killed, some quite violently.

iPhone 4S Announcement

Followed along with this morning’s iPhone press announcement out of Cupertino by reading the live blogs from engadget, this is my next and gdgt (who all own the copyrights to the attached photos) as well as watching TWIT‘s live commentary coverage. Most of the interior upgrades to the iPhone were spot on with the rumors and they are all pretty impressive, especially the camera upgrade and incorporating Siri’s personal assistant into the OS, but I did have high hopes for a newly designed 4G iPhone 5. That to me was a disappointment since I was eagerly waiting to switch from T-Mobile over to Verizon. The iPhone 4S is a million times better than my LG Sentio, but the lack of 4G or of a new design tempered my desire to switch right away. And casually mentioning poor Sprint seemed like such an afterthought.

Walking IB

Went for a two+ mile sunset walk with the Tapias along the marshes of Imperial Beach. Lots of other walkers and bikers along this striped mini-road of a walkway towards Silver Strand. Stitch had two poops and Lilo just one, all three of which I was entrusted to collect.

Visiting José At Home

Went over to José’s house to visit him after he returned home from his hospital stay for surgery. He is making an incredible post-op recovery and his stapled incision is healing up really well.

At Heather’s Day Two: Shapes

My second full day at Heather’s house. Today my focus was on capturing interesting geometric shapes from both inside and out, natural and man-made.

Tacos And Donuts

After our evening walk the Tapias and I went to Los Panchos in Chula Vista for an incredibly delicious Mexican dinner, followed by some fantastic donuts conveniently located next door to Los Panchos. We had to replace the calories we had burned with the earlier walk. It’s simple biology.

Evening Walk Along Mission Bay

Went on a three mile walk this evening at Rose Starns Park just south of SeaWorld with the four Tapias. It was a beautiful San Diego dusk and getting out into ocean air and the setting sun felt very refreshing.

At Heather’s Day One: Friends Of Lauren

My first full day of house-sitting for the VS family. Today, in between podcasts, meals, processing photo and an evening walk, I focused my camera on Lauren’s little friends. They all seem like a pretty happy bunch.

You Know You’re Not In Nebraska When…

I went to pick up a gallon of milk from Albertson’s in Chula Vista for my weeklong stay at Heather’s and had trouble finding parking because they had cordoned off the main center parking aisle to set up tents and a dancing area for these Hispanic youths dressed in authentic Mexican folk dance costumes. It was colorful and loud but the kids did a really good job.

In-N-Out Urge

Went through an In-N-Out drive-thru with the Tapias for dinner. Haven’t had an animal style Double Double with cheese in a long time. Great chocolate shake, too.

Last Day For José

My mom and I went to visit José on his final full day in the hospital. Amazing to think that he had brain surgery just two days ago and tomorrow he’s already going home. Sylvia, Rodrigo, Miguel and his kids and Mari were all there with him. Didn’t stay very long.

Blue Angels At Miramar 2011

Climbed up onto the roof to take telephoto shots of the Blue Angels performing on the first day of the Miramar Air Show. Love seeing them every year, even if it’s from a distance. Ever year our trees get bigger and cover a bit more of the sky. Also hope that by this time next year all of our overhead lines will finally be underground.

Kitten Feeding

Helped my niece Kimi feed the three kittens today. She took care of Ron Burgundy and Mr. Blue, and I had Mr. Pink. These kitties are getting so big, so quickly. They look at you, they wrestle, the scratch themselves, all like real cats only much smaller.

José’s Surgery

Spent the afternoon with my best friend Sylvia’s family at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest. We were there waiting for her father José to have his brain tumor removed. They took him in at 5:00 and at 7:30 the neurosurgeon came into the waiting room and told us that everything went very well. We were able to get a quick “good night” in to him before he was lead into recovery.

Brazen BBQ

Had lunch with Mary at a newly open barbecue restaurant in Hillcrest called Brazen BBQ. It was clean with quick service and really good food. I had a very tasty pulled pork sandwich but the portions were a bit too much, as usual. We noticed quite a few flies on the inside of the windows and they’ll have to do something to fix that situation, but other than that the food was very good. I definitely would go back and eat there again.
