Ron’s Visit

After catching up with my buddy Ron at the airport (he’s a pilot for American and arrived this afternoon), I picked him up from the Harbor Sheraton, took him to Coronado for dinner at Lil’ Piggy’s BBQ (had a groupon voucher), and then walked along the Old Ferry Landing before taking him back. We reminisced about high school and talked about the pitfalls of marriage vs. the satisfaction of being a parent. I’ll have to take his word on both of those.

Tourist In My Own Town

Spent a couple of hours this afternoon walking along the Embarcadero here in San Diego before meeting up with my high school buddy Ron. Went from the County Admin building down to Seaport Village and back, stopping at a few places to capture some images, empty my bladder (yes, Lisa, more pee) and remove a twenty from an ATM. That last thing came in very handy for gas later.

Space Station Sighting

Got a shot of the International Space Station as it passed over the Northern sky here in San Diego. Once I could find it I was only able to get about a twenty second exposure before it faded away. Still, pretty cool, seeing something floating in space while standing on Earth.

My Expanding Online Empire

Set up yet another new online account, this time with 500px.com, a photo presentation website that gears more toward serious photography. There’s a free account with a 20 photo limit per week, and an unlimited paid account. Both let you create a photo blog and follow other photographers. Within fifteen minutes of posting six shots I had over 50 views and three comments from a Russian, a German and I think a Swede.

UPDATE: Since posting my 20 photos this afternoon, I have received 233 views, 7 favorites, 19 affections (likes), 10 comments and 4 follows, by other photographers from around the world. So cool!

My Tweetiversary

Today is my third year anniversary of being on Twitter.

Good Riddance, OBL

Great news about Bin Laden’s death at the hands of US Special Forces. America really needs this right now. Watched the live streaming announcement on the White House’s website. Team America: World Police does it again!

Her Noticing Me Is Becoming Infrequently Regular

Lisa Bettany commented on two more of my Flickr photos: a Disneyland Castle shot and an Inner Space Caverns photo. True, her comments aren’t exactly about the quality of my photos, but being noticed is still nice.

Dog Walk Around Fiesta Island

Walked around Fiesta Island in Mission Bay with the entire Tapia family, including Lilo and Stitch, on an absolutely gorgeous San Diego day. Followed it up with a good Mexican lunch at a recently opened Roberto’s Taco Shop.

Cinco De Mayo In April

After the Art Walk in the morning, I went back to Old Town to walk around the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta celebration. Saw plenty of very colorful crafts being sold, some well done, others looking like the ones they sell at the border crossing in Tijuana. Got to meet 22-year old Sonya Quiroz, the first ever Miss Cinco de Mayo.  There was a lot of live music including some amazing guitar playing by Mario Olivares at the Corona Main Stage. There even was a Mexican wrestling ring set up right in front of the Immaculate Conception church.

Art Walk In Little Italy

Took the trolley from Old Town and met Sylvia and Rodrigo in the Little Italy district of downtown San Diego for this year’s Art Walk. Talked to an artist acquaintance of ours (Scott Palmer) and met two new ones (Christopher M. and Pete Tillack), both of whose work we really liked.

Awareness Test #2

This one’s really good, but just as much fun finding out what you missed as watching the video in the first place.

Awareness Test #1

Pretty amazing if you’ve never seen this done before.

Level One Complete

Absolutely insane first-hand view of a downhill mountain bike race in Chili. Totally video game-like with near crashes and a stray dog.

Monarch Larvae

Ok. I’ll admit to watching some of the ceremony recap on the news this morning. I can understand what he sees in her.

Does Eli Know He’s Black?

Watched “The Book of Eli” over at the Tapias’ house. Been wanting to watch that movie for a while and the it did not disappoint. Really good twist at the end. Mila Kunis is a doll.
